Course content
Anatomy and physiology of the auditory analyser, basic hearing disorders and their treatment options. Otitis media, injuries and disorders of the outer, middle and inner ear. Tumours of the outer ear. Anatomy, physiology, symptomatology and function of the nose and nasal sinuses (NS). Inflammation of the nose and NS, injuries to the nose and NS, epistaxis. Anatomy, physiology, symptomatology of laryngeal diseases, examination methods, voice, and speech disorders. Choking (causes, classification, treatment), laryngitis, laryngeal tumours. Anatomy, physiology of the swallowing tract, symptomatology of pharyngeal diseases, examination methods. Inflammations and tumours of the swallowing tract. Anatomy and physiology of the visual analyser, basic disorders. External and intraocular inflammations. Cataracts and glaucoma, eye injuries. Ophthalmosurgery. Anatomy and physiology of the skin. Classification of skin diseases. Skin diseases from external causes. Skin care. Dermatomycosis, allergic diseases. Sexually transmitted diseases. Introduction to dentistry, anatomy and physiology of the teeth and oral cavity. Basics of restorative dentistry, prosthetics and implantology. Pathologies in dentistry - dental caries, enamel erosion, gingivitis, periodontitis, stomatitis, precancerous diseases and tumours in the oral cavity, bone inflammations, inflammations around the jaw. Prevention in dentistry - dental hygiene, dental and oral care. Basics of stomato-surgery - pathologies of the jaw joint, salivary glands, traumatology, dentoalveolar surgery, surgery of jaw anomalies, traumatology, onco-surgery. Demonstration of basic examinations in otorhinolaryngology (otoscopy, rhinoscopy, pharyngoscopy, laryngoscopy). Hearing testing, hearing screening, rehabilitation, demonstration of basic types of hearing aids. Examination of the sense of smell and nasal patency. Sleep apnoea syndrome from a nursing perspective. Patient after tracheotomy and laryngectomy. Tracheal cannula care, airway suctioning. Intake of food through the oesophageal tube. Specifics of nursing care for patients after ear, nose, and NS surgeries. Nursing care in patients after surgical procedures on the pharyngeal and palatine tonsils, specifics in children. Basic ophthalmological examinations and treatments. Nursing care of patients after eye surgery. First aid for eye injuries, prevention. Physical examination of skin. Specifics of nursing care in patients with skin diseases. Skin care, screening programs. Prevention of dental caries, dental and oral care training. Nursing care in patients after stomatosurgical procedures. Special care of teeth and oral cavity in intensive care, care of dentures.

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to acquaint students with fundamental examination methods, nursing care, and first aid in urgent conditions in otorhinolaryngology, with care of the tracheostomised patient and with symptoms of inflammatory and oncological illnesses in the ENT area.
The student gains a basic overview of the fields of otorhinolaryngology, dermatovenerology, ophthalmology, and stomatology.

Fulfilling the mandatory 80% participation in exercises. Completion of a written test.
