Course content
Introduction to the subject, basic terminology. The relationship of philosophy and medicine, the emergence of philosophy, the position of ethics. Basic ethical approaches - utilitarianism versus deontology. Basic principles of health ethics. Basic codes of ethics and documents of medical ethics. Assisted reproduction from a medical ethics perspective. Thanatology and euthanasia issues. Ethics and transplants. Nursing research ethics. The question of the importance of ethics for the pursuit of the health profession; health care without the existence of ethical standards. A practical demonstration of ethical deliberation. Analysis of cases of ethical dilemmas in the field of assisted reproduction and abortion issues. Ethical issues related to the end of life; deliberation on the topic of euthanasia. An ethical grasp of the issue of transplants, addressing a particular ethical situation.

Learning outcomes
The aim of the subject is formation of character, intellectual, and professional traits of health care worker. The syllabus focuses on philosophical, ethical, and legal aspects of exercising a non-medical profession.
Students will be able to explain fundamental philosophical and ethical terms; will be acquainted with legislation in the field of criminal, civic and administration code in relation to health care. Students will be capable to orientate themselves in philosophical problems, ethical approaches, and health care legislation essential for their profession.
