Course content
Introduction into Philosophy, Ethics, and Law. Ethical balance sheet and key ethical theories. Ethical issues of the beginning of human life. Ethical issues of the end of human life. Human rights, rights and responsibilities of patients and of health care workers. Codes of ethics. Ethical issues in research involving human subjects. Assigning a seminar work. Ethical issued in selected clinical disciplines - case studies. Analysis of the seminar work.

Learning outcomes
The aim of the subject is a character formation and development of intellectual and professional traits of a healthcare professional.
The student is able to explain basic philosophical terms. The student becomes familiar with the course and its significance in a given field. The student gains basic understanding of the subject of philosophy in nursing. Students are able to orientate themselves in legal regulations in health care, which are necessary for their practice.

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral examination

Completion of compulsory 80% attendance at the practicum sessions. Completion of compulsory attendance at the lectures. Successful completion of a written test or an oral examination.
