Course content
Basic nursing terminology, protection and therapeutic regimen. Patient positions, hygienic care, pressure ulcers. Anti-epidemic regimen. Decontamination procedures. Hand care. Disinfection. Sterilization. Patient needs in nursing care. Basic physiological functions and their monitoring. Patient admission procedure. Bed care, hygienic care, patient positions, positioning, pressure ulcers, rash. Moving the patient: shifting the patient, turning the patient, transporting the patient, sitting the patient up. Assisting with getting undressed and getting dressed, moving seriously ill patients and injured patients. Monitoring of physiological functions. Single-use supplies. Principles of safe handling of sterile material. Basic surgical instruments. Dressing changes. Preparation of a sterile cart. Bandages, dressing materials. Professional pre-medical first aid including basic procedures to manage reactions to contrast agents.

Learning outcomes
The subject provides fundamental information on first aid and basic nursing procedures. The focus is both on theoretical and practical training of nursing procedures and first aid.
The student will acquire insight into nursing activities. They concern mainly activities focused on meeting patients´ and clients´ biological, psychological as well as social needs that have been altered or that have arisen in connection with their deranged health status. The student is able to provide first aid.

Completion of compulsory 80% attendance at the seminars. Successful completion of a written test.
