Course content
Elements of nutrition, metabolic demand of an organism. Malnutrition and immune response. Dietology and enteral nutrition. Parenteral nutrition, a diabetic patient on artificial nutrition. Obesity, weight loss, and antioxidants. Nutrition in pregnancy. ECG examination. Pathophysiology of the cardiovascular system. Pathophysiology of the respiratory system. Pathophysiology of the gastrointestinal system. Pathophysiology of the excretory system.

Learning outcomes
The aim of the subject is to acquaint students with physiological functions of tissues, organs and mechanisms which apply in their control and homeostatic maintenance. Students learn about pathophysiological processes, which play a significant role in developing numerous diseases. Clinical nutrition is focused on metabolic changes in starvation, the role of nutrition on origin of civilization diseases, dietary guidelines and special procedures in applying artificial nutrition.
Students have theoretical knowledge of functions and regulations of individual systems, including essential nomenclature. Students are able to deduce manifestations of their disorders and causes of functional changes of the organism.

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral examination

Written test on clinical nutrition. Written examination (multiple response test), or an oral examination. Mandatory attendance in lectures of 80 per cent. Passing the written test. Passing the exam.
