Course content
Psychology as a scientific discipline. Basics of general psychology. Theory of personality. Personality traits. Basics of social psychology. Social perception, stereotypes, prosocial behaviour. Ontogeny, periodization of human age, developmental theories. Psychological specifics in individual developmental periods. Psychology of health and illness. Theories of stress. Psychosomatic relationships. Psychological influences of the medical environment, psychological issues of pain and fear. Psychological issues of selected diseases and defects. Mental processes, states. Personality - self-knowledge. Personality traits, values, attitudes. Work with own emotions. The meaning of life, life goals. Social group, teamwork and cooperation. Pro-social behaviour, evaluation. Coping with manipulation, mobbing. Psychological specifics of people in different developmental periods. Stress management, relaxation techniques. Attitudes to illness. Coping with pain and fear. Training of complex model situations focused on the specifics of the field.

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to introduce students to the basics of psychology, with a focus on general, developmental, social and medical psychology.
The student can analyse mental activities, processes and states. Through knowledge of his/her personality, he/she will better understand other people. He/she understands the differences of the human psyche in different developmental periods, in health and in illness. Knows the influence of the medical environment on the individual and is able to eliminate its negative effects. Can use basic techniques of psychological approach to healthy and sick people.
