Course content
The personality of a healthy/sick woman, her life story, values, family. A healthy/sick woman and her family as subjects of care. The concept of illness/disability/pregnancy/childbirth, health beliefs, experiencing and managing situations in which health is impaired. Pain from a psychological point of view, fear, anxiety and their management. Psychological care for the dying and their loved ones, perinatal loss. Working with a life story. Establishing a relationship, empathy, partnership. Self-reflection, work on developing soft skills. Basics of crisis intervention.

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to provide students with the basic knowledge of health psychology, illness and psychosomatic medicine necessary for the midwife profession.
Students understand the relationships of psyche in health and illness, they understand the importance of life story in care. They know the influence of the health care environment on the patient/mother-to-be and the healthcare professional and they are able to eliminate its negative effects. They understand and can apply the principles of an individualized approach to sick and healthy women and their families. They demonstrate the ability to be supportive to a woman and her family.

Assessment methods and criteria
Discussion

Completion of compulsory 70% attendance at lectures. Completion of compulsory 80% attendance in exercises. Successful completion of a written test or an oral examination according to the course guarantor's decision.
