Course content
Introduction to cardiopulmocerebral resuscitation, basic terminology, indication. Chain of survival, basic algorithm, Guidelines 2005. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Life-saving procedures (securing an airway, Combi-tube, intubation, surgical securement of an airway, chest puncture and drainage, medication administration). Triage of the injured in a scene of mass casualty. Shock, definition and a basic pathophysiology, haemorrhagic shock, and treatment.

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to provide basic information, knowledge, and habits about life-saving procedures and interventions in the care of injured individuals as well as of mass casualties, basic information about cardiopulmonary resuscitation, antishock measures, arrest of bleeding, immobilization procedures, and about other measures that follow as part of a health care transport from an event site to a specialist health care institution.
The student knows the principles of cardiopulmonary resuscitation according to the latest Guidelines and recommendations, knows life-saving procedures and interventions. He/she knows the principles of triage of the injured in a scene of mass casualty and will be able to provide a rationale for and to defend his/her approach in saving the injured.

Completion of compulsory 80% attendance at the practicum sessions and seminars.
