Course content
Terminology and characteristics of basic types of surgical procedures, overview and characteristics of surgical approaches, techniques in traumatology. Topographic anatomy and function of organs operated in traumatology. Pathophysiological conditions, their diagnosis and indications for surgical treatment in traumatology. Classification of fractures, classification of soft tissue injuries, diagnosis and indications for surgical treatment. Principles of osteosynthesis, types and techniques of different types of osteosynthesis, overview and characteristics of surgical approaches in traumatology. Polytrauma, compound injuries. Abdominal and chest trauma. Diaphyseal fracture surgery - intra-articular, osteosynthesis, LCP splinting, metaphyseal fracture surgery, open fracture surgery. Compartment syndrome and its solution. Arthroscopic surgery and arthroscopically assisted osteosynthesis. Perioperative care - specific aspects of individual surgical procedures in traumatology. Instrumentation, specific instrumentation, implants, medications and other medical devices, materials and aids.

Learning outcomes
The objective of the course is to acquaint students with specifics of the field of trauma surgery, issues of selected surgical diseases and their surgical therapy.
Students will master anatomy, topographical anatomy, pathophysiology, diagnostics, treatment and principles of perioperative care in trauma surgery. Students will orientate themselves in surgical procedures in most frequent therapies in the field. Students will be capable of providing nursing care in their role of a perioperative nurse, and they will be aware of risks and crisis situations in trauma surgery resulting from situations in operating rooms.

Fulfillment of 60% mandatory participation in lectures and 80% mandatory participation at exercises. Completion of the assigned written work. Successful completion of an oral exam or written test according to the requirements of the subject guarantor.
