Course content
Definition of social policy as a scientific discipline and its basic concepts. Social policy of the European Union. The function of social work in the system of social policy and the society. The typology of the welfare state and the role of the welfare state in today's society. Functions and instruments of social policy. Subjects and objects of social policy. Constituent areas of social policy. Social exclusion, inclusion, and poverty. Preventive role of social policy. Social services, social and legal protection, social insurance, social security, and social assistance. Discussion seminars on current social issues with regard to contemporary social risks in the context of current social policy instruments. Labour market policy and social security policy. Health, education, family, and anti-drug policy. Student presentations of seminar papers.

Learning outcomes
The aim of the subject is to acquaint students with the issue of social policy in relation to health and social work. The instruction takes into account current issues relevant to national social policy while considering theoretical paradigms of social policy as a scientific discipline, and also in relation to other social sciences (especially sociology, social psychology, and social work) and in the context of European social policy.
Students are familiar with basic terminology of social policy and can apply the gained knowledge to the practice of the health and social worker.

Oral examination, Home assignment evaluation

Completion of compulsory 80% attendance at the lectures and at the practicum sessions. Completion and presentation of seminar paper on an assigned topic.
