Course content
Health and its determinants. Health education methods and their use. A healthy way of life. General epidemiology and its methods. Hygiene and epidemiology in relation to public health protection. The incidence of infectious diseases and their prevention. Prevention of nosocomial infections. Substance dependence issues. Nosocomial medicine. EU and WHO Public Health. Health policy of the EU and the WHO. Implementation of the WHO health policy at the national level. Types and forms of health services and the conditions for their provision in health care facilities. International classification. Health statistics. Modifiable determinants of health. Health education methods and their use. Implementation of the WHO health policy at the national level. Health statistics and demography.

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to acquaint the student with issues related to strengthening health and to provide him/her with basic information on questions about health, illness, and the health status of the population.
The student uses various educational methods to care for health and to prevent illness in individuals, in groups, and in the entire society. He/she knows managerial and entrepreneurial activities in health care and practically applies gained knowledge and skills.

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral examination, Home assignment evaluation, Presentation

Completion of compulsory 60% attendance at the lectures. Completion of compulsory 80% attendance at the practicum sessions and seminars. Completing assigned written work.
