Course content
Definition of the terms: politics, social policy. Functions of social policy. Social policy instruments. Areas of social policy. Historical development of social policy. Welfare state, types of social policies. Social policy in the EU context. Social policy parties in the Czech Republic. Social policy at regional/local level. Sub-areas of social policy. Employment policy. Family policy. Social policy in the field of housing. Health policy. Education policy. Introduction, introduction to credit requirements, assignment of seminar topics. Discussion seminars on current social policy issues. Presentation of students' seminar papers.

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to introduce students to the issues of social policy in relation to health and social work. Current topics of national social policy are treated in relation to the theoretical paradigms of social policy as a scientific discipline, also in relation to other social sciences (especially sociology, social psychology and social work) and in the context of European social policy.
Students are familiar with the basic terminology of social policy and are able to apply the acquired knowledge in the work of a health and social worker.

Specified compulsory attendance in seminars and lectures. Passing a written test or an oral exam, or other conditions, as decided by the course guarantor. Completing assigned seminar paper.
