Course content
Family, family function, developmental stage of family, typology of families, the current problems of the family. Relationships and processes in the family, professional work with the family. An outline of the clinical families. Social work with abused, battered and neglected children. Social work with lonely parents, with families in divorce proceedings. Social work with victims of violence in the family, with many troubled families. A historical excursion into institutional care in the Czech Republic. The history of institutional care on the basis of the selected institute. Children's centres - the services provided, the number of, reasons for adoption, the release. Children's homes and children's homes to school - the number of services, the statutory definition. Educational institutions - the statutory definition, the service, the number in the Czech Republic, the reason for admission. Diagnostic of the constitution - statutory definition, the service, the number in the Czech Republic, the capacity, the reasons for adoption. Rules and sanctions in residential care, information provision, risk of institutional care (aimed at children in institutional care). The organizational structure of volunteering in residential care, the issue of host families - examples from practice. The assessment of the needs of the child at risk - a model of the situation. Decision-making in the field of substitute family care - a model of the situation. Case work as a method for social work with the family.

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to acquaint students with the problems of the contemporary family and social work with clinical families.
Student understands the differences of individual institutes in the Czech Republic. Student understands the problems, that can occur in the family and he/ she knows how to proceed in these cases. Student can also use a variety of methods of social work such as interview and case conference.

Oral examination, Written examination

The fulfilment of compulsory attendance at lectures and seminars. Written test or oral exam fulfilment according to course guarantor decision.
