Database technology in contemporary IS. Basic characteristics of databases, database design. Query processing and optimization. Transactional and parallel processing. Basic characteristics of object-relational databases. Object-oriented properties in SQL. Basic characteristics of data warehouses, OLAP. Architecture and design of data warehouses. Web technologies and databases.

Learning outcomes
|
The aim of the course is to introduce doctoral students to selected prospective trends in the field of modern database systems.
The doctoral student is led to independent work in the preparation of a project from the material being discussed, when he will also use the knowledge gained for his doctoral dissertation. As part of the project solution, he independently searches for problems that can be solved using the methods contained in the subject, presents partial and final solutions of his project, and defends the knowledge gained in a professional discussion.
