1. Distributed database systems essentials and classification. 2. Schemata architectures in distributed database environment. 3. Distributed database design. Data allocation. Fragmentation. 4. Query processing in a distributed environment. 5. Query optimization. 6. Synchronization. Central and decentralized locking. 7. New trends in distributed databases.

The goal of the course is make doctoral students familiar with most recent trends, practical experience and theoretical knowledge from the area of distributed database systems. The main focus is put on the design methodology, query processing, as well as data replication.
