The Role of NGOs in state governance. NGO Management: models and approaches. NGO-state relations from different theoretical views. European Policies and Practices of NGO-Government Cooperation. Social partnership forms and models.

|
The aim of the subject is to enable students to understand both the theory and practice of Non-Government Organisations. Understanding NGOs begins with an analysis of the development of the NGO sector and an introduction to some frameworks for understanding NGOs. It moves on to describe the issues faced by NGOs as a result of their distinctive identity and relationship with a wide range of different stakeholders, and concludes with an examination of the key management functions of leadership and governance as they relate to NGOs. Students will develop skills in relating the theoretical perspectives and debates about NGOs, and civil society more broadly, will develop a comprehensive understanding of competing theoretical perspectives about NGOs? relationships with states other NGOs and municipalities, to identify key components of NGOs? organisational structure and management and, in light of these, develop strategies to enhance their (NGO) effectiveness in service delivery.

Prerequisites
|
A student who successfully completed the subject can understand the main theoretical perspectives of NGO and civil society, forms of collaboration between NGO and public institutions at national local and regional levels, the changes of NGO and civil society in the context of Public governance transformations. The student who success fully completed the course will able to identify key components of NGOs' organisational structure and management and, in light of these, apply a range of tools and approaches to the development of NGO structure, and develop strategies to enhance NGO effectiveness in service delivery. A student who success fully completed the subject is able analyze, evaluate and model forms of collaboration/partnerships between NGO and public institutions, will understand organized civil society and NGO participation importance in creating social changes and their influence to meeting the needs of civics and as well is able to argue the decisions made, to follow principles of ethical activities and to combine independent and team work A student who successfully completed the subject is able to develop abilities of systemic thinking, solution of problems, analytical and research abilities; ability to improve communicative and presenting, collaborative, information management abilities needed in practical NGO activities organization and promotion of civic initiates.

Assessment methods and criteria
|
Written examination
The assignment is grated upon positive evaluation of the assigned tasks during the seminars. The examination is in written or oral form.
