Course content
Topics: Home is Best. Travelling. World of Films and Literature. Conspirational Theories - JFK, Lady Di, Elvis. The Young and Their World. How To Be Successful. Grammar: Present Simple and Continuous. Past Simple and Continuous. Present Perfect Simple and Continuous. Past Perfect Simple and Continuous. Present Simple - for expressing future. Present Continuous - for expressing future. Future Perfect and Continuous. Participles. Wish clauses. Concessive clauses. Relative clauses. Time clauses. Indirect speech. Idioms, phrasal verbs. Phrases, e. g. So do I/ Neither do I. Passive Voice. Expressing quantity. Content of Units 1-6 - New Headway Upper-Intermediate including Workbook exercises and listening exercises.

Learning outcomes
Language course of general English, level CEFR B2. The course focuses on various communicative needs and situations developing language skills, such as reading comprehension of authentic texts, listening comprehension of authentic material, writing various general and academic texts, idioms. Students will broaden their knowledge of grammar. Texts and listening materials reflect on factual and more abstract context.
Students will acquire ability of fluent use of previously gained knowledge in B1 and B1P. The exercises combine new and old knowledge, so confidence and fluency in using the language is also gained. When listening to audio recordings, speaking or writing, students will manage to communicate in complicated situations and comprehend different accents from various speaking areas.
Prerequisites
Knowledge of English at level B1P at least. At the beginning of semester, students will be tested and on the basis of the entrance test results, they can be redeployed to the course of a different language level according to CEFR.

Assessment methods and criteria
Written examination

Written test (70% at least). Parts of the test: grammar, listening, and reading comprehension. 80% attendance will be required and regularly checked. The use of AI is prohibited in qualification and individual papers and in the outputs that form the basis for the assessment of the course. The use of AI is only permitted in accordance with the teacher's assignment for completing a particular task. In the case of distance/hybrid teaching, students continue to follow the course schedule, actively participate in and at a specified time distance/hybrid teaching provided through the electronic teaching system MS Teams, carry out and check assignments published on the STAG, communicate with the teacher by e-mail, MS Teams, Skype, or telephone.
