Course content
Attention is paid to deepening speaking skills. However, the focus is mainly on the contexts of formal written expression. The grammatical part of the teaching will be appropriate to the chosen level of the language.

Dialogic (discussion, interview, brainstorming), Work with text (with textbook, with book), Methods of individual activities, Skills training
  • Contact teaching - 26 hours per semester
  • Home preparation for classes - 35 hours per semester
  • Preparation for a credit (assessment) - 30 hours per semester
Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to motivate students to increase their language competence. Students are expected to use the foreign language primarily when working with sources and literature related to their research topic, for the production of their own texts, and for communication within the scientific community. Students can enrol in language courses organised by the Faculty of Arts at the University of Pardubice. The current offer includes English at level B1, B1P, B2, and B2P
The course is focused on acquiring the ability to use previously gained knowledge. The courses combine new and old knowledge, so confidence and fluency in using the language are also practiced. When listening to audio recordings, speaking, or writing, students will manage to communicate and comprehend different accents from various speaking areas.
Prerequisites
Knowledge of English at a level that is a maximum of one level lower than the chosen course. At the beginning of the semester, students can be tested and on the basis of the entrance test results, they can be redeployed to the course of a different language level according to CEFR.

Assessment methods and criteria
Written examination

Active participation in the courses 80%. Completion of homework. Presentation. Passing the final written test with at least 70%. The use of AI is prohibited in qualification and individual papers and in the outputs that form the basis for the assessment of the course. The use of AI is only permitted in accordance with the teacher's assignment for completing a particular task.
