Course content

Lectures: Anatomy and physiology of the nervous system. Location of disorders of the brain functions. Central and peripheral paresis. Disorders of speech. Neuralgia and neuropapthy. Fundamental brain and spinal syndromes. Auxiliary examination (MRI, CT, EEG, EMG/NCS, LP, Evoked Potentials). Cerebrovascular accidents. Multiple sclerosis. Neuromuscular conditions. Epilepsy and seizures. Seminars and Practicum: Nursing neurological assessment. The nursing process in the care of patients with altered LOC. The nursing process in the care of patients with impaired mobility. The nursing process in the care of patients with speech disorders. The nursing process in the care of patients with dysphagia. The nursing process in the care of patients with seizures.

Learning outcomes
|
The aim of the course is to acquaint students with prevention, treatment, and nursing issues arising due to neurological illnesses and to emphasize special aspects of nursing care in neurology. Students are able to practically apply gained theoretical knowledge, is able to identify and assess individual needs of neurological patients, plan, implement, and critically evaluate and defend the nursing process.

Assessment Methods: Compulsory active attendance at all the sessions is required. The examination is based on a written test or oral examination and submitting a paper.
