Course content
Language and culture. The global student. Intercultural aspects of professional and academic communication. Key intercultural words and concepts. Linking ideas and information. Making recommendations to improve communication in an international company. Social interaction in the business and academic environment. Socially responsible business. Media survey in the area of IT and Electrical Engineering. Research in the area of IT and Electrical Engineering. Oral and written production in the area of IT and Electrical Engineering.

Learning outcomes
The main course objective is to enhance the previously acquired language skills with special attention paid to the development of the language used in the specific area of English for Specific Purposes (ESP; IT and Electrical Engineering) a English for Academic Purposes (EAP). The target level of the course is C1 in ESP and EAP. The course focuses on further development of vocabulary and productive skills relevant to students´ future professional and/or academic careers, emphasising enhancement of learner autonomy
The student is able to communicate interactively at C1 level, is versed in using extended vocabulary in the area of English for Specific Purposes (ESP; IT and Electrical Engineering) a English for Academic Purposes(EAP). Speaking: interactivity, distinguishing register. Reading: mastering reading techniques, advanced use of dictionaries and sources of information. Writing: respecting style and register. Listening: comprehension of commonly mediated types of listening in ESP and EAP.
Prerequisites
- for non-native speakers Communicative competence: CEFR B2+ in general English and in English for Electrical Engineering and IT.

Assessment methods and criteria
Student performance assessment, Oral performance analysis, Student portfolio analysis

Completing 70% of course seminars. Completing the credit requirements upon the teacher's requirements. Exam/credit test based on the content of the seminars. The completed level of students' language competence will be evaluated within the final examinations using standardized testing materials. Subject completion requirements in case of a distance teaching mode: Based on the teacher´s requirements, the student participates in online lessons according to the schedule and completes the assigned tasks via the online systems Moodle / MS Teams.
