Course content
Neurology (+ First and Second Conditional). Coronary (+ Verb Patterns). Surgery (+ Future). Infectious Diseases (+ Passive). Renal (+ Relative Clauses). Psychiatry (+ Present Perfect Simple and Continuous). Outpatients (+ Used to). Standardized final language exam which consists of both the written and the oral part and which also reflects the specific command of language relevant to the students professional needs.

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is development of language skills and introduction of Medical English. The course should consolidate knowledge and command of English and increase interest in English learning. The focus is on extension of the passive and active command of basic medical vocabulary, revision of basic grammar structures, and practice of language skills. The initial level of communicative competence: B1 in General English. The final level of communicative competence: B1+ in Medical English.
The student is able to communicate interactively at B1 level, is capable of using relevant Medical English vocabulary. B1/MedE: Speaking: interactivity, distinguishing register. Reading: mastering reading techniques, advanced use of dictionaries and sources of information. Writing: respecting style and register. Listening: comprehension of commonly mediated types of listening on familiar matters regularly encountered in the hospital.
Prerequisites
Communicative competence: CEFR B1 in general English.

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral performance analysis, Didactic test

Student will prepare and present a semestral work on an assigned theme. The exam consists of a written test (pass mark 60%) and an oral interview.
