Key learning outcomes The aim of the doctoral study programme Economics and Management of Businesses with Process Manufacturing Operations is to prepare universally and comprehensibly prepared graduates, scientific research workers, who will be able to work professionally on the level of international standards in their field of specialisation, and highly qualified experts, ready to take on management positions in businesses with process manufacturing operations, in particular businesses in the chemical industry and other related fields of industry. We understand process manufacturing operations to mean such chemical and biochemical processes which, as opposed to mechanical manufacturing operations, create resulting products from input materials and components through application of chemical and biochemical technologies, which have a different chemical structure and also new end-use properties. Process manufacturing operations figure to a greater or lesser extent not only in fields of the chemical industry, but also in technologically related fields such as the food industry, pharmaceutics, photochemistry, the paper industry, the plastic and rubber industry, etc. The doctoral study programme builds on knowledge, skills and competences of students gained in the follow-up master's study programme and its aim is to further develop these in terms of development of thinking, knowledge and skills, both in the field of theory and modern new methods and procedures in economic management disciplines, and also in the field of chemical technology, biological and biochemical production, as well as methodology of scientific work. During the study programme, emphasis is placed on the role of socially sensitive businesses with process manufacturing operations in the knowledge society of today and their contribution towards sustainable development. Graduates of the given study programme will be able to expediently link knowledge and skills from the field economic management disciplines and chemical technology disciplines, will be able to create effective interaction between theory and practice on the desired level of education, both during their scientific research activities and also while managing businesses. Implementation of the study programme in question will contribute towards formation of new scientific research workers and development of scientific research work, including the grant and publication activities of various scientific research institutions.
