Course content
Blood. Death and Dying. Hygiene. Mental Health Nursing. Monitoring the Patient. Medication. Alternative Treatments. Standardized final language exam which consists of both the written and the oral part and which also reflects the specific command of language relevant to the students professional needs.

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is development of language skills and introduction of Medical English. The course should consolidate knowledge and command of English and increase interest in English learning. The focus is on extension of the passive and active command of basic medical vocabulary, revision of basic grammar structures, and practice of language skills. The initial level of communicative competence: A2 in General English. The final level of communicative competence: A2+ in Medical English.
The student is able to communicate interactively at A2 level, is capable of using basic Medical English vocabulary. A2+/MedE: Speaking: can communicate in simple and routine tasks requiring a simple and direct exchange of information on familiar and routine matters. Reading: mastering reading techniques, use of dictionaries and sources of information. Writing: writing short, simple notes and messages relating to matters in areas of immediate need. Listening: comprehension of commonly encountered types of listening (Medical English).
Prerequisites
Communicative competence: CEFR A2 in general English.

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral performance analysis, Didactic test

Student will prepare and present a semestral work on an assigned theme. The exam consists of a written test (pass mark 60%) and an oral interview.
