Course content
|
Patient admissions. The heart. Respiratory problems. The respiratory system. Wound care. Wound bed preparation. Diabetes care. The pancreas. Medical specimens. The kidneys. Standardized final language exam which consists of both the written and the oral part and which also reflects the specific command of language relevant to the students professional needs.

Learning outcomes
|
The aim of the course is to extend the knowledge of medical English. The course will deal with medical texts, practise and develop language skills to be able to communicate in English with doctors, patients, and colleagues both home and abroad, and use international medical literature efficiently. The final level of communicative competence: B2 in Medical English.
The student is able to communicate interactively at B2 level, is capable of using relevant Medical English vocabulary. B2/MedE: Speaking: interactivity, distinguishing register. Reading: mastering reading techniques, advanced use of dictionaries and sources of information. Writing: respecting style and register. Listening: comprehension of commonly mediated types of listening on familiar matters regularly encountered in the hospital.

- for non-native speakers Communicative competence: CEFR B1 in general English.

Assessment methods and criteria
|
Oral performance analysis, Didactic test
Students will prepare and present a semestral work on an assigned theme. Attending 70% of the sessions Completion of all prescribed assignments Exam/ Credit is based on the summary of materials/topics covered in the sessions. The exam consists of a written test (pass mark 60%) and an oral interview.
