Course content
Medications. Prescription chart. Intravenous infusions. Blood circulation. Pre-operative assessment. Pain receptors. Post-Operative assessment. Cerebrovascular accidents. Discharge planning. Standardized final language exam which consists of both the written and the oral part and which also reflects the specific command of language relevant to the student?s professional needs.

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to extend the knowledge of medical English. The course will deal with medical texts, practise and develop language skills to be able to communicate in English with doctors, patients, and colleagues both home and abroad, and use international medical literature efficiently. The initial level of communicative competence: B2 in General English. The final level of communicative competence: B2+ in Medical English.
The student is able to communicate interactively at B1+ level, is capable of using relevant Medical English vocabulary. B1/MedE: Speaking: interactivity, distinguishing register. Reading: mastering reading techniques, advanced use of dictionaries and sources of information. Writing: respecting style and register. Listening: comprehension of commonly mediated types of listening on familiar matters regularly encountered in the hospital.
Prerequisites
Communicative competence: CEFR B1 in general English.

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral performance analysis, Didactic test

Student will prepare and present a semestral work on an assigned theme. The exam consists of a written test (pass mark 60%) and an oral interview.
