The course deals with the specific demands of translating literary works. On the theoretical side, it offers a historical overview of translation aesthetics (from Horace and Cicero to the hermeneutic approach of Heidegger and Gadamer), as well as the process of creating a literary work, its concretization, interpretation, and translation. On the practical side, it focuses on the complex relationship between reproductive and artistic norms and, through concrete examples, seeks to illustrate what must be taken into account when translating literary texts and what pitfalls a translator may encounter. Since the seminar largely requires independent creative work, a high level of proficiency in both English and Czech is essential.
