What is a research paper? Types of research papers (analytical, explanatory and argumentative), audience, plagiarism. Choosing the topic, invention techniques. Outline. Developing a thesis statement, types of resources, evaluating resources, note-taking. Procrastination and writer's block, writing and integrating sources. Editing, proofreading, finalisation.

Learning outcomes
|
In this course, the practical experience from the internship is interrelated with the theoretical background of academic writing and conducting research. The aim of the course to produce a paper, which presents the processed data about the company or department where the students worked, and the project they participated in. During the work on their papers the students demonstrate their competence in working with sources, collecting, analysing and processing information in the mother and target languages, in arraying, evaluating, and discussing the findings, in constructive reviewing and evaluating other peers' works, in discussing and reviewing the findings of the paper, and in handling questions.
Students will improve their competence in academic writing by writing a research (academic) paper in English on the project done during the interneship (company culture description, processing the project the students participated in), in building arguments in writing and speaking, in working with primary and secondary sources, their analysing and evaluating when applying a critical approach, and in the ability to evaluate works of co-writers.

Home assignment evaluation, Discussion
Research paper (2000-3000 words). Peer work, evaluating papers of other students. Oral part - defending the paper.
