Course content
|
Protolytic equilibria. Theory of acid and bases. Influence of solvents on protolytic equilibria, classification of solvents. Definition of pH for aqueous, mixed and non-aqueous solvents. Protolytic reactions in non-aqueous solvents, analytical applications (titrations in non-aqueous media). Computation of pH and composition of protolytic systems. Distribution and logarithmic diagrams. Buffers and their capacity. Complex-forming equilibria. Complexes and chelates. Formation of complexes in solutions. Step-wise complex equilibria. Distribution diagrams of step-wise complex equilibria. Conditional complex equilibria, influence of side reactions. Screening. Equilibria of precipitation reactions. Solubility product. Solubility of precipitates. Influence of protolytic reactions on solubility of precipitates. Effect of complex equilibria on the solubility. Complex formations with foreign ions. Formation of complexes with ions of precipitant. Solubility of hydroxides. Selective dissolution. Oxidation-reduction equilibria. Standard and formal oxidation.reduction potentials. Influence of protolytic, complex-forming and precipitation reactions on oxidation-reduction reactions. Extraction equilibria. Distribution coefficient, distribution ratio and degree of extraction. Learning outcomes
|
The aim of the object is to allow students more familiar with the use of published equilibrium data for computations of composition of equilibrium systems, mutual influences of chemical equilibria, as well as for calculations of conditional quantities and their practical use in computations of complex systems.
Student passing through the object is able to describe and solve complex computations of equilibrium systems.

Student has to participate the lectures combined with practical training of computations.

Assessment methods and criteria
|
Written examination
Student applying for the object must first pass through basic education of chemical and instrumental analysis, as well as physical chemistry.
