Course content
Principles of measurements of colour properties of pigments, reasons of colour, objective methods of measurements of colour (systems XYZ, xyz, CIE Lab). Standardisation of measurement conditions. Calculation of colour differences and their meaning. Different types of microscopic techniques (light microscope, electron microscopy), modern microscopic methods (confocal microscopy, acoustic microscopy). Microscopy with an electromechanical probe (STM, AFM). A survey of methods of measurement of particle size distribution (sieve analysis, sedimentation methods, microscopic methods, optical methods using light scattering). Function of particle size distribution in poly-disperse system Measurement of surface area of powdery materials, principles and applications of the methods Utilization of methods of thermal analysis in inorganic technology to studies of reactivity of raw materials. Principles and applications of differential thermal analysis and differential scanning calorimetry for kinetics. Emanation thermal analysis. Utilization of statistical methods in inorganic technology. Exploration analysis of one-dimensional data. Analysis of small data files. Linear regression. Calibration. Comparison of two selections.

Learning activities and teaching methods
Monologic (reading, lecture, briefing), Methods of individual activities, Skills training
Learning outcomes
Students make the acquaintance of methods concerning methods for evaluation of powdery materials in inorganic technology.
Students receive information about different experimental methods for evaluation of powdery materials. The students can select the suitable method for characterization of powdery material and discuss obtained results with respect to quality of pigments. Students are able to statistically process the experimental data.
Prerequisites
Knowledge of course: Materials Characterization Methods

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral examination, Home assignment evaluation

Oral examination and practical application of statistical methods.
