1st week: Introduction to the subject - general requirements for biomaterials, definitions, limitations, applications. 2nd week: Blood - blood elements, composition, properties, physiology, functions of blood elements. 3rd week: Blood clotting - anticoagulant properties of biomaterials, vessel structure, types of hemostasis, wettability. 4th week: Immunogenicity of materials - human immune system, immunity, histocompatibility, privileged tissues. 5th week: Structure of connective tissues, intercellular matrix, wound healing. 6th week: Overview of biomaterials (metallic, ceramic, plastic, carbon, composite). 7th week: Biomedical use of nanomaterials - nanoparticles, nanofibers, nanolayers. 8th week: Surface properties of biomaterials and their modifications - deposition of atomic layers, wettability, structure. 9th week: Use of biomaterials in regenerative medicine and tissue engineering. 10th week: Biomaterials for medical applications - replacements of soft and hard tissues. 11th week: Biodegradability - surface properties of materials, corrosion of biomaterials, degradation of biomaterials. 12th week: Study of cytotoxicity and biocompatibility of biomaterials - in vitro/in vivo testing methods. 13th week: Modern trends in the development of biomaterials.
