Course content
Theoretical introduction - separation techniques (chromatography, electrophoresis, dialysis). Thin-layer chromatography of serum lipids. Determination of fatty acids by GC-FID method, sample preparation Determination of fatty acids by GC-FID method, analysis. Determination of cholesterol in oils by the Liebermann-Burchard test. Emulsifying ability of bile acids. Distribution of lipoproteins electrophoretically, evidence of lipoproteins by potassium iodide, approximate determination of beta-lipoprotein concentration. Effect of reaction conditions (pH, temperature) on enzyme activity. Specificity of enzymes. Inhibition of enzymes. Enzyme kinetics - determination of kinetic parameters Km, Vm. Credit test.

Learning outcomes
The aim of this subject is to improve practical competency of student for working in biochemical laboratory, mastering separatory techniques and ability to determine kinetic parameters.
Student will be able to work in biochemical laboratories and work with common analytical equipment (centrifugation, extraction, protein precipitation, spectrophotometric measurements). Student can statistically interpret obtained results.
