Course content
1st week of OSH in the histology laboratory. Histological laboratory equipment (chemicals, microtomes, etc.). 2nd week (- 4th week) Practice of laboratory procedures in histology - fixation (physical and chemical means; selected types of fixation fluids - formalin, etc.). Principles of embedding in paraffin. Sectioning of tissue blocks (microtome (manual vs. automatic, cryomicrotome). 5th week (- 7th week) Practice of laboratory procedures in histology - staining of histological sections (principles of staining, types of hematoxylin/eosin staining, special staining - impregnation, pigments, identification of polysaccharides, etc.) 8th week (- 10th week) Microscopy ? Epithelia, Connective tissue, Circulatory system, Lymphatic system, Blood, Respiratory system. Skin. 11th week (- 13th week) Microscopy ? Digestive system. Endocrine system. Nervous system. Urinary system. Male reproductive system. Female reproductive system. Sensory system

Learning outcomes
The subject is focused on practical training in tissue processing for subsequent basic microscopic analysis of the structure of tissues and organs of the human body, i.e. it deals with histological techniques, general histology and also special histology. The tasks are aimed at familiarizing students with the basic procedures in the preparation of a histological specimen, its staining, and subsequent microscopic analysis.
