Course content
|
Principles of work safety in a biological laboratory. Optical principles of light microscopy. Properties of microscopic objects. Building a Nikon Eclipse E200 light microscope. Basics of working with a light microscope. Methods of increasing image contrast in a light microscope - dark field, phase contrast, Nomarski differential interference contrast, Hoffman modulation contrast. Fluorescence microscopy. Preparation of the native preparation. Vital staining, plant cell and organelles. Cell cycle and mitosis - phases of the cell cycle and mitosis, cytokinesis, staining and observation of chromosomes. Meiosis and its progress, phases of meiosis. Plant tissues. Cytometry - measurement of cell size. Cell counting.

Learning outcomes
|
The emphasis is in particular on a perfect mastery of the work with the light microscope, including special microscopic methods.
Students will be able to work with light microscope and prepare microscopical preparations.
