Course content
Labour protection in biochemical lab, fire safety. Volume admeasurement, pipetting test ? precision and rightness. Statistical evaluation of precision and rightness of analytical method. Properties of proteins, their determination in sample. Precipitation of proteins by inorganic acids, organic solutions and inorganic salts. Determination of total protein in human serum using biuret reaction. Importance of saccharides for living organism, quantitive determination by using of colored reactions. Determination of glucose in human serum. Separation of aminoacids according to their chemical structure. Thin layer chromatography. Characteristics of lipids and their basic division. Preparative chromatography of serum lipids and their quantification. Determination of cholesterol in oils. Determination of IC50 of butyrylcholinesterase inhibitors. Kinetics of enzymatic reaction, determination of Michaelis constant of urease. Determination of urea concentration in human serum. Determination of vitamin E using HPLC. Final test.

Learning outcomes
The aim is to improve practical competency of student for application measuring physical and chemical properties of substrates, enzymes, vitamins, hormones and nucleic acids.
Student will be able to work in laboratories of biochemistry including centrifugation, extraction, protein precipitation, analytical and preparative chromatography, HPLC, spectrophotometric measurements. Student can to statistically interpret obtained results.
