Definition of metabolomics. Targeted and non-targeted metabolite analysis. Metabolites and their profiling. Fingerprinting and footprinting of metabolites. Human metabolomics. Sample preparation for metabolic studies, dried spot technique of biological sample (dried blood spot, dried plasma spot, dried urine spot, etc.). The methods used in metabolomics (liquid and gas chromatography with mass detection, capillary electrophoresis with mass detection, tandem mass spectrometry, and nuclear magnetic resonance).
