Course content
|
Laboratory report, laboratory rules and safety, categories of danger. Basic laboratory techniques, laboratory glassware. Analytical chemistry - qualitative and quantitative analysis. Solubility of inorganic substances. Preparation of aqueous and non-aqueous solutions. Pipetting, filtration. Fundamentals of analytic chemistry - qualitative and quantitative analysis. Basic types of chemical reactions, chemical calculations (e.g. mass, mole and volume fraction). Measuring pH. Water absorption of mineral materials such as stone and plaster. Grain size distribution of mineral materials.

|
The target of this subject is to check and primarily to complete theoretical knowledge in organic and inorganic chemistry.
Students get practical experience with materials and methods commonly used in conservation profession. Students obtain basic knowledge in the field of chemical technology of monument conservation. In addition to, students obtain experience with written documents.

Students should attend the course Basics of Chemistry I.

Assessment methods and criteria
|
Written examination
Students gain credits if they attend the laboratory course performing given experiments and submitting laboratory report at the end of the semester.
