Course content
|
Vehicle frames and bodies. Rigid and swinging axles - driven, drive, steering. Vehicle wheel, rims, tires. Suspension of vehicles (leaf spring, spiral spring, torsion-bar spring, rubber suspension, air, hydropnuematic, rubber- liquid suspension). Shock absorbers, stabilizers. Requirements on steering (steering geometry, steering mechanism, steering parts, ball joints, steering rods, steering gearboxes,steering boosters, all-wheel steering). Kinds and constructions of drum and disc brakes. Brake systems. Total ordering of car drive-train. Clutches (dry friction, multi-disc, centrifugal, electromagnetic, hydrodynamic, automatic). Manual step gearboxes, synchronization systems, shifting mechanism, and an auxiliary transmissions. Hydrodynamic torque converter, planetary gearboxes. Articulated and dumb-bell shafts, differential (spur-gear differential, epicyclic differential, inter-axle differential, differential lock). Electronic devices. Time reserve, conclusions of course content.

Learning outcomes
|
Subject objective is acquainting students with basics of structural design of road vehicle specifically with parts of chassis and transmission mechanism, with their functions and characteristics.
After passing this subject student is able to describe and explain the function of particular construction parts of chassis and transmission mechanism. Student is able to evaluate particular constructions from view of their functions and characteristics.

Prerequisites

Encompassment of mathematics, physics, technical mechanics is supposed.

Assessment methods and criteria
|
Oral examination, Written examination
Credit is awarded for successful processing of a written work and active participation in exercises. Final examination consists of oral examination with written preparation.
