Mechanical part of brake - disk brake, brake units. Rail brake parameters from the point of view of international rules. Pneumatic part of brake on locomotive. Sources of compressed air, arrangement of brake parts. Driver's brake controllers - direct and indirect (mechanically or electrically controlled) Pneumatic part of brake on coach and freight car. Basic types and characteristics of distributors. Regulation of brake effect depending on vehicle's speed (powered vehicle, coach) Regulation of brake effect depending on vehicle's weight, manual or automatic empty-loaded changeover devices. Wheel slip protection device. Magnetic track brake. Parameters and construction in bogie. Electro pneumatic brake - direct and indirect. Cooperation of different brake types by braking. Arrangement examples of brake of different rail vehicles.

Learning activities and teaching methods
Monologic (reading, lecture, briefing), Methods of individual activities
Learning outcomes
Get students basic information about theory and construction of brake systems of rail vehicles. The sections are divided into parts of force behavior by braking, pneumatic and mechanic part of brake, construction and characteristic of each brake types and design of brake for concrete vehicle.
Student is able to consider the suitability of brake system for concrete rail vehicle from the point of view of vehicle parameters (weight, speed) and able to design the brake system according to requirements too.
Prerequisites
Knowledge of rail vehicles construction, theory of rail vehicles, mechanics of rail vehicles movement within the range of bachelor study.

Assessment methods and criteria
Written examination, Home assignment evaluation

Concrete requirements will be notified at the beginning of the practice.
