Course content
1. Combustion engines - types, basic terms and parameters. 2. Working cycles of piston combustion engines (PCE),Ideal and real operating cycles of PCE, characteristics of PCE. 3. Kinematics of crankshaft mechanism; Forces and moments occuring in crankshaft mechanism. 4. Principles of counterbalancing of PCE. 5. Torsional oscilation. 6. Movable parts of PCE - crankshaft mechanism. 7. Stationary parts of PCE. 8. Valve train mechanism. 9. Suction and exhaust system. 10. Cooling and lubricating system. 11. Fuel systems of petrol and diesel PCE. 12. Mixture creation and mixture combusting, emissions. 13. Charging PCE.

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to familiarize students with the basic theories and functions of vehicle internal combustion engines, their design and assembly, and the function of their sub-systems.
After passing the subject, students are familiar with principles of theory of internal combustion engines.
Prerequisites
Students are supposed to have basic technical knowledge, obtained by study at high school and previous university courses.

During the semester and at the examination students must demonstrate understanding of solved problems and prove ability to orientate themselves in problems of the subject. Actual requirements will be announced at the first week of the semester.
