Course content
|
1. Standardization and normalization in the railway branch, technical specifications for interoperability. 2. Vehicle authorization process, European Union Agency for Railways (ERA). 3. Requirements on railway operators (Single Safety Certificates SSC) and train drivers. 4. Relationship of operation and maintenance (Entity in Charge of Maintenance ECM), rail accidents. 5. Reliability of objects and elements (basic terminology, reliability indicators, reliability tests). 6. Life Cycle Costs (vehicle life cycle stages, definition of total life cycle costs, vehicle life cycle milestones in relation to LCC analysis). 7. Degradation processes of the technical condition of vehicles. 8. Basic types of wear (adhesive, abrasive, cavitation and erosive wear, methods of evaluation, factors affecting different types of wear). 9. Basic types of wear (vibration and fatigue wear, damage to machine parts due to contact stress, factors affecting different types of wear). 10. Technological procedure for maintenance of traction vehicles, workplace equipment. 11. Organization of maintenance of passenger and freight railway carriages. 12. Maintenance and repair of vehicle bogies (wheelsets, suspension).

Learning outcomes
|
The subject is focused on the problems of operation, maintenance and repairs of railway vehicles, including the relevant legal framework.
By completing the course, the student will gain knowledge of the activities related to the organisation and technological aspect of the repair process, including the relevant legal framework.

Prerequisites
|
The prerequisite for successful completion of the course is knowledge of the construction of vehicles and machine parts.

Assessment methods and criteria
|
Oral examination, Written examination
A condition of participation in the examination is obtaining credit. The credit confirms that the student has participated in the required level of teaching and that he/she has fulfilled the requirements for the award of credit. The conditions for the award of credit are determined by the instructor in the first week of the semester's lecture period. The course examination (written and oral) is set in accordance with the UPCE Study and Examination Regulations.
