Railway vehicle bodies 10. Draw and buffing gear

Learning activities and teaching methods
Monologic (reading, lecture, briefing), Graphic and art activities
  • Contact teaching - 20 hours per semester
  • Preparation for an exam - 35 hours per semester
  • Home preparation for classes - 95 hours per semester
Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to provide students with knowledge of design of basic structural components of rail vehicles - freight wagons, passenger coaches and powered vehicles. The students are guided to understand the function and design principles of important systems found in vehicles.
During the course, the students gain knowledge on basic mechanical elements of railway vehicles. The students understand their function and role in the complete vehicle system and are capable of acquiring and evaluating information from technical descriptions of vehicles and their components.
Prerequisites
Students are assumed to have knowledge from the courses of previous years of study, in particular those dealing with technical drawing and strength of materials.

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral examination, Written examination, Home assignment evaluation

The requirement for credit is active attendance in tutorial lessons (the way of compensation of missed lessons to be specified by the teacher) and completion of assigned computational and graphical exercises. The exam consists of writing and oral parts, emphasis being put on graphical expressing of the student (sketching of design components and systems).
