Basic bridge terms and their specifications (types of bridges, bridge deck and bridge superstructure, loads, legislation). Design principles of beam bridges. Design principles of frame bridges. Design principles of arch bridges. Design principles of composite bridges. Design principles of rope bridges. Design theory of a lattice bridge structure (static calculation). Design theory of full-plated bridge structure (principles of design and calculations).

Learning activities and teaching methods
Monologic (reading, lecture, briefing)
  • Contact teaching - 15 hours per semester
  • Term paper - 72 hours per semester
  • Preparation for an exam - 16 hours per semester
  • Home preparation for classes - 79 hours per semester
Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to acquaint students with the design and evaluation of steel bridge structures. In the introductory lectures there is a brief recapitulation of knowledge from previous study courses such as Metal structures and Bridge construction and reconstruction. Subsequently, the static calculations of the truss and full-wall girder bridge are described in detail.
After completing the course, student is able to design and calculate the beam bridge structure..
