Course content
Safety, fundamental terms and relations. Railway Signalling systems - features, specificity and charecteristics. Category of the Railway Signallings systems, used technological principles. Subsystems and elements of Railway Signalling systems. Station interlocking systems. Line signalling systems. Level crossing systems. Automatic train protection systems. ERTMS/ETCS Centralized railway traffic control, GNSS for traffic purposes. Telecommunication systems and networks for purposes of railway traffic control. Cross-roads control systems and roads junction control systems Air traffic control systems.

Learning outcomes
It brings in encyclopedic form an overview about the methods used for achieving of traffic safety and about features of technical systems that are intended for traffic command and control. Railway traffic is accentuated.
After the successful final pass students understand basic differences in approaches and methods for achievement of railway, road and air traffic safety. Next the students obtain overview about fundamental technical and physical principles especially used for Railway Signalling systems realization and about functional features of the systems that are intended for railway, road and air traffic command and control.
Prerequisites
Knowledge in basic principles of railway and road traffic operation and fundamental terminology related to railway and road infrastructure is assumed. Ability of reasoning and physics on high school level (mechanics, electricity and magnetism) are necessary.

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral examination

Students have to prove understanding of the discussed topic and ability to solve fundamental problems independently. The students are judged both on final and during semester. Particular requiremets are brought out at the first week of semeter by teacher.
