Course content

1st week Psychology of personality - structure. Performance characteristics of personality - abilities, aptitudes, talents, talent. 2nd week Motivational and profiling personality characteristics - motivation, stimulation, temperament, attitudes, character. 3rd week Self and communication - self-concept, self-awareness, self-knowledge. The essence of communication - characteristics, principles and communication models. 4. - 5th week Rhetoric and public speech - characteristics, speech preparation, informative and persuasive speech. Practical presentation of students. Week 6 Social perception and listening - processes affecting perception and errors in perception, listening process and active and effective listening. 7th week Verbal communication - character of speech, acceptance, healthy communication. 8th week Non-verbal communication - an overview of individual types of non-verbal communication. 9th week Mental hygiene and stress - positive and negative stress, stressors, mental hygiene techniques. 10th week Psychology of conflict - emergence of conflict, effective conflict management, negotiation techniques, mediation. 11th week Manipulation and defense against manipulation - types of manipulation, methods of defense against manipulation, assertiveness. 12th week Small social group and communication - characteristics, members, leaders, roles and norms, work group, team. 13th week Communication in the 21st century - issues of digital communication - trends, challenges, risks.

Learning outcomes
|
The goal of the course is to provide students with fundamentals of psychology and social communication, to introduce them principles of effective interpersonal communication and practise its practical usage.
After finishing their studies of this subject the students are able to orientate themselves in the personality psychology area, in the area of a personality growing and its attitude to the others round. They know the basic managing skills and can use them during further studies, presentation of their personalities or their work and they can achieve a better quality of their lives. The knowledge learned during this subject can significantly help to the students to become a part of working teams or to execute the manager position.
