Course content
1. Propagation of electromagnetic waves - classification of EM waves in terms of propagation. 2. Waves in the real environment - propagation near the ground, direct wave, spatial wave, surface wave 3. Propagation of electromagnetic waves in the ionosphere 4. Antenna parameters - radiation characteristics, directivity, gain, impedance matching 5. Basic antenna elements - half-wave dipole, monopole, stacked dipole 6. Antenna measurements - free space measurements, antenna chamber measurements and impedance matching measurements 7. Antennas for long wave, medium wave and short wave 8. Antenna feed and impedance matching circuits 9. Funnel and slot antennas 10. Reflector antennas and broadband antennas 11. Circular polarization antennas 12. Antennas for special applications, antenna auxiliary circuits

Learning outcomes
The first part of the course is focused on the introduction to the theory of electromagnetic wave propagation in real environments, such as the troposphere and ionosphere. The next part of the course is focused on the definition of basic parameters of antennas and their measurement in free space and in the anechoic chamber. The main part of the course is devoted to a theoretical description of important types of antennas, their design and calculations of parameters of these antennas.
The student will gain knowledge in the field of electromagnetic waves in free space and in trannsmision liness. He will also be acquainted with the basic types of antenna elements and the measurement of their parameters.
Prerequisites
Basic knowledge of high school mathematics, integral and differential calculus.

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral examination, Written examination

The student must demonstrate an understanding of the solved problems during the semester and during the final exam. The specific requirements will be communicated to the students by the teacher in the first week of the semester.
