  • Participation in classes - 52 hours per semester
  • Preparation for laboratory work and processing of results - 52 hours per semester
  • Preparation for an exam - 40 hours per semester
  • Home preparation for classes - 36 hours per semester
Learning outcomes
The subject is an introduction to the study of microwave elements. First, students are introduced to the basic types of waves that are applied to different types of transmission lines. Another part of the subject is devoted to the parameters of microwave lines, their measurement and display of measured results in the scattering matrix and on the Smith chart. The key part of the subject is devoted to the basic microwave elements, with emphasis on their theoretical description and construction. Another part of the subject deals with applications of microwave antenna elements. The last part of the subject isfocused on an introduction to the issue of waveguides integrated in the substrate.
A student after completing this subject will know the theoretical foundations of the propagation of electmagnetic waves, and the transmission lines along which these waves propagate. He will also be familiar with basic passive microwave elements and antennas. Last but not least, the student will be competent to perform measurements of microwave elements and antennas and to properly display and evaluate the measured results.
Prerequisites
Basic knowledge of high school mathematics, integral and differential calculus.

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral examination, Written examination

The student must demonstrate an understanding of the solved problems during the semester and during the final exam. The specific requirements will be communicated to the students by the teacher in the first week of the semester.
