Learning activities and teaching methods
Monologic (reading, lecture, briefing)
Learning outcomes
The subject employs basic knowledge of physical chemistry and introduces the main biocalorimetric and thermoanalytical methods. The courses will review and summarize the practical utilization of the particular experimental techniques in consideration of many specific biological fields, food analysis and polymer chemistry. Seminars include demonstrations of biocalorimetric experimental techniques and introduction of basic analysis of experimental data. Seminars will supplement the theoretical courses with gain of practical skills required for studying phenomena and materials related to biological applications.
Students will master basic principles of calorimetric and thermoanalytical techniques utilized in bio-applications. Students will get complex knowledge about various bio-scientific fields. At the end of the courses students should be able to treat and evaluate data from most biocalorimetric and thermoanalytic techniques, as well as to competently choose a proper experimental technique suitable for a given task
Prerequisites
Basic knowledge of general and physical chemistry

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral examination, Written examination

Mastering the taught topics; ability of single-handed choice of suitable experimental techniques; understanding to basic analytical and evaluative methodologies.
