The main task of the course is to comprehensively acquaint the student with the various areas of use of catalysis in environmental protection. Attention is focused mainly on practical knowledge of commonly available technologies and processes. In the first part, the student gets acquainted with the issues of environmental protection and the concept of catalysis. In the second part, the attention is focused on the catalytic processes used in the removal of emissions of NOx, N2O, CO2, NH3, CH4, SO2 and VOCs. For individual cases, the attention is given to the main sources, the impact on the environment and to current and alternative methods of emission control. The attention is also given to examples of the use of catalysis in the synthesis of special substances, examples of green chemistry and to catalysts for renewable energy and chemicals. Attention is also focused on the issue of fuel cells and photocatalysis.
Student should be able to know the basic concepts of environmental catalysis and green chemistry.
