Course content
|
The phenomenon of time in the philosophical reflection. The Presocratic concept of being, happening, passing, change, creation and extinction. The Platonic myth of the origins of the world. Divine and Human. The Aristotelian concept of time as numbers and movement in space. The Judeo-Christian concept of time - Chronos and Kairos. Augustin's concept of time. The time and eternity. The measurement of time in the light of technological development and philosophical context. The time in philosophical reflection at the beginning of the modern period. The understanding of time in Leibniz´s metaphysics. Kant´s concept of time according to the liberty of action, perception and cognition. The moment as a breakthrough in the eternity (Kierkegaard) and the existential concept of time. The H. Bergson´s time and duration. The internal consciousness of time (Husserl). The being and time, common being (Heidegger), time and the others (Levinas).

Learning outcomes
|
The aim of the course The time and history I. is to apprise the listeners in the tradition of philosophical concept of time from the Antiquity (including the Judeo-Christian traditions) to the present. The purpose is to show how the understanding of the time has become one of the ways of selfunderstanding and selfdefining of western man.
The students will gain the knowledge of the philosophy of time which will enable them the orientation necessary for the modern and postmodern western man.
