The history of philosophy as a history of political thought IV The political thought motivated by the doubts about the humanism and liberty of the liberal capitalistic society and its democratic form [Marx, Nietsche, Freud]. Contemporary liberal critics of this nihilism and utopia [Popper, Roepke, Hayek, Aron]. The theory of the open society as a critique of the utopian ideas and totalitarian reality. The fall of totalitarianism and the the end of history in the self-confident democracy [Francis Fukuyama], globalisation of the technocratic societies, the end of the nation state and so called contra-democracy.
Students will study those trends of the newer and contemporary philosophy which discredited the idea of the liberal democracy, the idea of human rights and the ideal of humanism and those which, on the contrary, contributed to their renewal.
